News Release: Wise Ink and Seneca Environmental Partner to Bring Clean Energy to Book Publishing
First Wise Ink title under new commitment uses renewable energy credits from a pollinator-friendly Minnesota solar farm, with retirement tracked by CleanCounts
JUNE 2, 2026, MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — This month, Minneapolis book publisher Wise Ink Media celebrates the launch of its first title published and printed with renewable energy.
When We’re Under the Same Roof is a children’s book about immigration by Minneapolis author-illustrator Ngân Huỳnh. Each copy includes a sustainability note that states it was “published and printed with electricity generated from a pollinator-friendly solar farm in Minnesota (mowed by sheep!).”
Huỳnh said, “I’m incredibly proud that my book can strengthen the community by celebrating diversity while promoting sustainable publishing practices. It shows how meaningful and far-reaching this work can be.”
The renewable energy certificates (RECs) are procured through Seneca Environmental, a tribally owned business, with REC issuance and retirement tracked through CleanCounts, the nonprofit clean energy registry headquartered in Minneapolis. The CleanCounts registry keeps the official record that the RECs were created, claimed by Wise Ink, and taken out of circulation.
“Wise Ink’s mission is to amplify ideas that inspire, educate, and change the world,” said Hanna Kjeldbjerg, vice president of Wise Ink. “As a company, we are always looking for ways to expand this mission, so using renewable energy to support pollinator habitat and our community was an easy choice.”
This collaboration with Seneca Environmental connects Wise Ink’s publishing mission with a growing market for renewable energy certificates that deliver a deeper story than electricity alone. The RECs supporting Wise Ink’s commitment come from a Minnesota solar farm that supports pollinator habitat.
“Seneca Environmental is proud to help Wise Ink take this meaningful step,” said Matt Renner, vice president. “Corporate renewable energy purchasing can do more than meet a sustainability goal. It can support tribally owned enterprise, strengthen clean energy markets, and help buyers connect their purchases to a more tangible story of impact.”
CleanCounts provides the registry infrastructure used by Seneca Environmental for the REC retirement, helping ensure renewable energy generation and attribute ownership are tracked transparently and credibly.
When We’re Under the Same Roof was published in June 2026. The book is available through Itasca Books, Amazon, and select independent bookstores.
