Who We Are

Seneca Environmental is a renewable energy development and investment company wholly owned by the Seneca Nation. Our mission is to equitably deploy and invest in innovative climate solutions that heal the Earth.

The Seneca Nation is a leader in Native energy, with advanced community wind and solar projects operating to lower the bills of Seneca Nation members and benefit the Nation as a whole.

A division of Seneca Holdings, which delivers over $650M in products and services annually, Seneca Environmental has the size and infrastructure to execute projects of any size.

Seneca Environmental began in early 2022 as Seneca Solar. Our new name, adopted in 2023, better reflects the breadth and scope of our work, which includes Earth-healing climate solutions beyond solar energy projects. Learn more here.

The Seneca Nation

Known as “Keeper of the Western Door,” the Seneca Nation is at the western end of the six nations comprising the Haudenosaunee, or “People of the Longhouse,” a confederacy founded on peace and diplomacy.

The Seneca Nation holds five territories, three retained in the Canandaigua Treaty of 1794 and two reclaimed pursuant to the Seneca Nation Settlement Act of 1994. The Allegany and Cattaraugus Territories are home to nearly half of the 8000+ member Seneca population.

Staunch defenders of their lands and sovereignty, the Seneca Nation has persisted despite immeasurable losses. These include the loss of 10,000 acres in the 1960s construction of the Kinzua Dam by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Despite these obstacles, the Seneca Nation has built an economy and the means to provide for the health, education, and welfare of its people.

Now, the Seneca Nation seeks to invest in meaningful projects and businesses. Returns include partnerships, empowerment, and reinforcement of long-held traditional values.

Maximize Your Impact

The Nation’s tribally owned businesses are the main sources of revenue to the Nation’s government and its over 8,500 enrolled members. Profits from Seneca Environmental help the Nation support cultural programs and ensure the health, safety, infrastructure needs, and education of Seneca members.

By doing business with us, you will directly support the future of the Seneca Nation, a Native community with a strong legacy of resilience and Earth-healing relationship building. At Seneca Environmental, we’re helping to support and grow this legacy now and far into the future.

Nya:weh means “I am thankful” and conveys a foundational religious concept at the core of the Seneca belief system. We thank you for joining us as we strive to honor the Nation’s Seventh Generation Principle in every decision we make and action we take, including building positive business relationships that bring long-lasting value to both our customers and the Nation.

Some of the Programs the Seneca Holdings Companies Help Support

Seneca Language Preservation

The Seneca language is one of hundreds of Native languages and cultures that Indian boarding schools sought to annihilate, and it continues to be under threat. The Seneca Nation is keeping the language alive through an adult immersion program and the Faithkeepers immersion school for children, which is helping raise the next generation of Seneca language speakers. Recent accomplishments point toward a bright future, with the school graduating the first fully fluent youth speakers in over a generation.

Workforce and Professional Development

We are committed to investing in the Seneca Nation’s next generation of leaders. In addition to professional development opportunities for Seneca high school and college students, we are training and employing Seneca members through a comprehensive internship program to grow the number of Senecas in the companies’ workforce. Our paid internship program provides meaningful opportunities to Native students through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development building relationships and providing experience to prepare future leaders for the workforce.

High-Speed Internet Connectivity

Seneca Energy, the Tribal Utility of the Seneca Nation, partnered with Seneca Holdings to construct a 52-mile fiber broadband network on the Nation’s Cattaraugus Territory. The project brought high-speed internet to a large segment of the Seneca population that was previously deeply underserved. It provides revenues to the Seneca government and savings and access for over 700 Seneca residents, businesses, and government facilities. Seneca Energy is now consulting with other Native Nations who seek to replicate this model in their communities.

Annual Marvin “Joe” Curry Veterans Powwow

The annual powwow is a signature event located on the Nation’s Allegany Territory for the Seneca people, friends, and neighbors, locally and across the country. This annual event honors Native American veterans and is named in honor of Marvin “Joe” Curry, a member of the Seneca Nation’s Snipe clan, who led a distinguished career of military service in the U.S. Navy. Seneca Holdings is proud to sponsor, support, and participate in the continuation of this cherished event.

This video further grounds our work in the concrete actions the Seneca Nation is taking to help its members, and the community benefits we are helping to create.
