PFAS Capture and Destruction

Destroying Forever Chemicals, Forever

authentic ESG strategies

For the Seneca Nation, water holds a deep cultural significance as a life-giving force to be protected and stewarded. The Nation’s traditional respect for water underpins its modern commitment to water reclamation and sustainable infrastructure. This now includes cleanup and destruction of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), a growing problem across the U.S. with carcinogenic effects that are just starting to be understood.

By combining stewardship and innovation, the Seneca Nation’s Earth-healing solutions company, Seneca Environmental, seeks to protect this essential resource while creating long-term economic value and building a future-focused environmental enterprise.

The Cutting Edge of PFAS Cleanup

Issues with Standard PFAS Cleanup

At a time when the carcinogenic impacts of PFAS are increasingly in the news and lawsuits are forcing companies to make large settlements, cleanup is still lagging.

  • Most cleanup focuses on collecting rather than actually destroying PFAS, leading to recontamination.
  • Landfills are rejecting PFAS waste because of concerns about the toxic chemicals leaching into groundwater and being released through landfill gas.
  • PFAS cleanup can be energy-intensive, expensive, and complex, particularly for multi-source sites with diffuse contamination.

A Groundbreaking New Way to Clean up PFAS

With our technology partner, we are offering an innovative PFAS cleanup process that focuses on capture and destruction rather than just collecting and dumping.

  • Identifies and removes harmful PFAS compounds from water sources while permanently destroying the PFAS molecule at its core.
  • Achieves 99.8% non-toxic removal and destruction of PFAS compounds, as verified by third-party testing.
  • Can be employed on industrial waste streams to destroy the PFAS onsite.
  • The low-pressure, low-heat process makes real destruction financially viable at scale.

Our partner’s revolutionary process breaks down the PFAS molecule to harmless residues that are unable to reform into PFAS molecules, thereby removing contamination while also ensuring recontamination can never happen again.

This system is the only effective method available that can both remove PFAS from the environment and completely destroy PFAS at its core.

Partner with Us

We are seeking partners to demonstrate this new, comprehensive approach to PFAS cleanup, which can be customized to your needs to handle all levels of PFAS contamination.

  • Partner with a tribally owned team with exceptional ratings from federal government customers.
  • Show your leadership in PFAS cleanup by being at the vanguard of a cutting-edge PFAS destruction system.
  • Get ahead of tightening state and federal regulations, growing concern from the public, and the increasing threat of litigation by water utilities.
  • Reduce long-term financial risk — recent settlements with corporations have run as high as $12.5 billion — and enhance your organization’s reputation.

In addition to our technology partner, Seneca Environmental is supported by the Seneca Nation’s federal contracting arm, with deep experience and capabilities in environmental cleanup, including Superfund sites, and exceptional federal contracting performance.

When you do business with us, you increase your impact by directly supporting a Native Nation. Our work supports Seneca Holdings’ mission to build a portfolio of profitable businesses that delivers long-term, sustained income and economic self-sufficiency to the Seneca Nation, a sovereign Native Nation located on a portion of their aboriginal lands east of Lake Erie.

What Are PFAS?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are large class of synthetic compounds used to make products resistant to water, stains, and heat. They are known as “forever” chemicals, because their highly stable chemical structure means they do not break down. So when they’re released into the environment, they remain there.

The widespread PFAS contamination of water and food has been linked detrimental health effects, including kidney, testicular, and breast cancer, low birth weights, miscarriages, immune-system suppression, thyroid disease, and obesity. Once PFAS enter the body and are absorbed by fat cells, they remain there forever with no method of removal or elimination. Nearly 99% of all humans tested for PFAS have shown PFAS presence in their blood.

Contaminated sites across the U.S. include public and private water sources as well as military installations that use fire-suppression foams containing PFAS.

Until now, the best method for PFAS “disposal” has been dumping contaminated PFAS capture media into local landfills, burying it, and hoping for the best. However, PFAS chemicals in this waste, even in lined landfills, leach into groundwater sources and return to contaminate the environment.

That’s why we’re focusing on permanently removing these dangerous chemicals from our environment.
